Christian Aid Week, 15 to 21 May

Christian Aid Week

There will NOT be a House-to-House collection this year.

We shall be having a street collection on the Wednesday and Saturday mornings instead – please look out for the people holding collecting tins!

Also we will be asking people to hold an event in their house to which they might invite friends or neighbours – perhaps a coffee morning, a soup lunch or a cheese and wine party. If your street isn’t having one – perhaps you could organise one yourself?

On 22 May – there will be a Service at 6pm in the United Church with a retiring collection.

If you would like to offer to help with any of these, or for further details contact: Sarah Bottomley 712074 or one of your Churches Together representatives

Scripture Union Romania

Scripture Union Romania

Scripture Union works in over 120 countries. One of the strengths of their ministry is that most of its staff are nationals, ensuring the work is relevant to the culture and context of each country and region.  Staff work around the world sharing the good news of Jesus and encouraging people in their faith through reading and understanding the Bible.  In many countries there are fewer than five staff members so they really need our prayers, practical and financial support.

St Mary's is developing links with Scripture Union Romania and a group of young people went out to Romania a few months ago.   There is a report about their visit, and we will put copies in the church together with any other information about Scripture Union in Romania for the Charity of the Month in June.  It is hoped to strengthen the links between Fairford and Romania so please watch out for more information about this charity and strengthening the links with Fairford at a later date.

We took St.Mary's and Community donations to the Beeches recently and were told that a new 'outlet' point has been set up in Tetbury which means a little of these goods may find their way there, as well as to Ashcroft Church in Cirencester.  Please have a word with me if you have any doubts or reservations regarding this.

We were asked to request the following please: - household goods, jam, fruit juice and sanitary items, as they are in short supply. Terry is a long-standing volunteer who, with his team of helpers, has transformed the little lock-up premises in The Beeches into a very slick and organised storage warehouse, and he is always amazed and grateful at how much you contribute.

It would be so good to hear that our help was no longer needed, but the need appears to be even greater still.

At Messy Church this month we will explore the reassuring words from Jesus about dealing with our worries. See how big a bubble can you make, or plant a grass head or make a cake the birds might like.

No need to book but it will help us with catering if you can let us know that you are coming. If not - just turn up on the day.
