Churchwatch Stewards

Churchwatch Stewards

Being a Steward can be very interesting and you do not need to be an expert about the church as all that is needed is to welcome visitors and ensure they have all they need for their visit.

We now have spaces to fill on various afternoons for a couple of hours, Monday twice per month, 4th Sunday of the month and Thursdays. If you are can spare some time for this, please contact Roy Phillips on 01793 751585 or email.

Romania Trip 2018

This week long trip is for all ages and involves serving some the of the most needy of Romanian children through craft, games and Bible teaching. If you can help with fund raising or other preparation, please chat to Joanne Roberts (who went last year) or contact Chris Saunders on 07918732040 or email.

Charity of the Month:
Carers Gloucestershire

Carers Gloucestershire

There are 63,000 unpaid carers in Gloucestershire, and a considerable number in this parish, as people step up to support friends and family through some of their most difficult times. Caring for a loved one can take many forms, as carers face many possible challenges: life limiting or terminal illness, dementia, mental health issues, addictions, life-limiting injuries and parents who care for children with physical disabilities or learning difficulties. For the majority, the role of caring comes at a detriment to their own health and wellbeing, including their financial security, as they struggle to meet the cost of day-to-day living.

Carers Gloucestershire seeks to support carers at critical stages: when caring first arises, at points of change or stress in the caring situation and when caring is long-term or intensive. They provide information, offer support in setting up forums and support groups, offer helpline support, and make sure that carers and the work they do are recognised by the wider health-care system and community.

Fairford Gospels

Churchwatch Stewards

This year the gospels were read at St Thomas’ church. It always feels like a luxury and a privilege to listen to each gospel from beginning to end. Several people commented on gaining new perspectives on aspects of the reading of the bible passages that they already knew well.

Thanks go to the members of the Catholic Church for their hospitality and practical help at the four sessions. Thank you also to all those people who made soup and the teams of volunteers who served soup and refreshments each week. As always we had willing helpers who took turns to read the gospels. Many thanks go to all the readers from the various churches.

The craft activities offered each week were not as popular as in previous years and we have decided to discontinue this aspect of the event.

Fairford Gospels was the inspiration of Maureen Partington. Each year she has overseen the smooth running of the event and we are grateful to her for the continuing success.,/p>

Easter is in April next year so look out for Fairford Gospels details in early March 2019! Fairford gospels is only a small part of the Churches Together around Fairford yearly programme.
